So here it is, my first online business tips post for you!
What are the keys to success? How do you make a successful online business? These are the types of questions that me, my team and every successful businessman gets day in, day out. But it’s not as simple as that. In order to become successful you need to understand everything that a business requires to reach max potential. In this post, I will give you three basic tips to creating a successful online business and will allow you to get started or fix any issues you may have in order to think of the bigger picture.
Basic Tip No. 1 – Get Your Site Up And Running
Whether you do or do not make use of the internet at all for your business, you need to understand the importance of your own company website. Even if you are not planning to draw consumers to your website or if you already have some social media platforms, a professional website will boost people’s perception of your business massively. This meaning that a professional website will make customers think that this you have a well established business presence as well as a web presence.
There are some important information you must include however, and these are parts such as your address, contact, privacy policies and terms and conditions (which nobody ever reads), established payments methods, and not to mention a well designed website.
If you decide to design and build your website on your own or consult a web designer, make sure that you follow Ben’s advice and make it your own, don’t try to be a business you are not. Further details on design, device compatibility and other website related tips will be explained in later posts.
Basic Tip No. 2 – Find Your Market
If you are a newly established internet business, you need to make sure you are targeting the correct market. Compared to your local market, don’t make the mistake that to use the same market for your internet campaign.
Lisa Richard (pro marketing accountant) says
“Too many people fall into the trap of developing their product or service and then expecting orders to come racing in, but with no ‘shop window’ through which to promote yourself, how are potential customers going to find you?”
This is the perfect quote to describe that you cannot simply jump into the deep end and expect results. Do your research and make sure that you are well equipped in numerous areas of your industry. Still unsure? Then take a look at Dave Chaffey’s article describing the situation and the many free tools you can use to combat them: Marketing Tools.
Basic Tip No. 3 – Know Your Competition
You may ask – but what do I need to know about my competitors?
You need to understand what they’re doing right and wrong. Most of the things you will be learning will be on the technical side of things (we are on the internet after all). Some include understand where they are located on the web rather than just having their own website. If they use different social media; if they use more directories than you; etc.
Some of the things your competitors are doing may be obvious and you can counteract to them right away, but some are not and require some more technical knowledge. Remember that your competitors are most likely not technical gurus, so they are beatable.
I hope you have a lot to think about and I imagine that you still have some questions that need answering. However, I will further release posts relating to the more technical side of the internet business world, so be sure to stay tuned.
